Caitlin Tucker

Born Caitlin Francis Tucker on the 4th of July in the Bicentennial year 1976 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to an English professor and his “church jazz” organist wife, Caitlin exemplifies everything girly and frilly, despite her two year stint in the Air Force maintaining C-130 Starlifters, including a tour in Bosnia in the late 90s.

A mother of two young kids, Caitlin spends most of her time keeping track of the little ones, but she also owns a small private-label hand-made soap company called Suddenly Soaps. She also generates a bit of income via the marketing of her travel photography - much of it taken during her stint in the Air Force - to stock photo houses, magazines, and calendar companies.

Caitlin lives with her husband Jason in Washington, D.C., where Jason works as a computer security analyst at “an agency which will remain unnamed.”

A liberal arts generalist as an undergrad, Caitlin studied Art History and Music Appreciation at Oberlin, before dropping out to start her family. She loves pictures of baby animals, and is constantly bringing a new beast home to become part of the ongoing menagerie. Though far from the Northern Midwest where she grew up, Caitlin tried to maintain the through-lines of tradition in her family by maintaining a flower garden in the summer and helping her mother-in-law with her scrapbooking hobby.

Caitlin loves to tells jokes and sing songs with her kids. She tries always to point out the beauty and art in the world around them. She’s sometimes prone to some light suburban mysticism, crystals and the like, but nothing serious like dolphins or UFOs. She can appreciate Hello Kitty toys without a trace of irony.

Caitlin likes pop music, top 40, folk, and new age instrumentals for “naptime” music. She doesn’t have an iPod, she still has a boom box and plays cassettes she mostly bought at garage sales in the 80s. She sings along with classical music on NPR when she paints at her easel set up out in the garage.

She says she has two Most Important Lessons Learned: “All you need is love” and “Beauty is Everywhere”.

Caitlin doesn’t play in Big Friday, but whenever they do play, she shows up in her Saffron-yellow great circle dress and spins around and around the dance floor, often starting dervish-y conga lines of spinning dancers.
